Revisión de 2016 para Medio Oriente, India y África

In an inspiring example of direct sponsorship, staff from our Amman office visited the Talbieh camp in Zizia in late November. They brought with them a delivery of heaters, blankets, and food supplies for three local families in difficult circumstances.

Mother's Day in March 2016 was an extra special occasion thanks to our staff in Amman, Jordan. A team of nine SITA employees dedicated the day to preparing and distributing care packages to households in one of the poorer areas in the country. They included special gifts to the mothers of the families living there.

In December 2016 our Beirut office organized a food and clothing collection and donation campaign in cooperation with the Red Cross. The result was 20 boxes of groceries and other basics packaged for distribution to poor families in Lebanon during the festive period. A number of our Beirut staff then took volunteer time out to deliver the care packages in person. A big thank you to all our team in Beirut for their generous contributions.

In October our Beirut office held a blood drive and donation awareness session with the help of local NGO, Donner Sang Compter (DSC).  It was a great opportunity learn more about providing this vital service to the Lebanese community. Around 10 of the 30 SITA staff attendees took the opportunity to make a donation.

In December 2016 a team of volunteers from our Dubai office spent a day visiting and interacting with the children and young adults at the Al Noor Training Centre, participating in a range of communications, sports and music activities. The center also offers a number of vocational initiatives that allow the young people to develop real world skills. These include a t-shirt printing facility, a carpentry workshop and a bakery. As a thank you for the day, the children and staff at the Al Noor Bakery baked a batch of cookies especially for SITA which were given away at our office canteen.

In June 2016 our Dubai office launched "Operation: #shoeboxlove", an initiative to fill shoeboxes with essential items for male expatriate laborers. They work in difficult circumstances, often in intense heat outdoors. The goal was 30 boxes, one for each day of the month of Ramadan. They were filled with non-perishable food, toiletries and long distance phone cards. Dubai staff exceeded this target and filled a total of 40 boxes for distribution in the Muhaisnah/Sonapur area.

On 27 May 2016 Jamie Partington, a SITA Business Development Manager based at our Dubai office, completed an extraordinary challenge to run 50 km a day for 7 days to raise money to help fund medical treatment for a friend with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Joined by SITA team members at various points along the way, and supported by donations from colleagues and supporters around the world, Jamie has raised over AED 30.000 (US$8,167).

The SITA team in Trivandrum, Kerala, India raised a significant donation in the amount of INR 65.000 (US$1,000) for the local Trinity Balabhavan hostel which provides a home and educational support for underprivileged students aged 3 to 12.  On 3 June 2016 the SITA team visited the hostel and made an in-person delivery of beds, pillows, bed sheets, toiletries, stationery items and school bags for the students. It was welcome support to the 41 children residing there.
